A powerful exploration of music, identity, and resistance in the Middle East
Beirut Dreams in Color delves into the intersection of music and activism through the lens of Mashrou’ Leila, a Lebanese indie rock band known for its outspoken lead singer, Hamed Sinno—the first openly gay rock star in the Arab world. The documentary captures a pivotal moment during a 2017 concert in Cairo, where a fan's act of waving a rainbow flag sparked a series of events that highlighted the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community in the region. The film also pays tribute to Egyptian activist Sarah Hegazy, whose courage and subsequent persecution underscore the ongoing struggle for queer rights in the Middle East.
